  1. Part IX of Article 430 covers motor disconnects. It takes up two full pages. It begins with 430.101.

  2. It must be in sight from the motor location and the driven machinery location [430.102(B)(1)]. It must also be readily accessible [430.107].

  3. Yes, but only if it is part of a listed combination motor controller [430.109(A)(4)].
  4. It has to be rated at least 115% of the full load current of the motor [430.110(A)]. See the motor nameplate for this value. Also note the exception for a listed, unfused motor switch.
