After Article 392, Chapter 3 winds down with a series of "oddball" Articles. The first of those is Article 393, then we come to Article 394. This Article addresses a once common wiring method that today's electrician rarely encounters unless rehabbing old houses. Generally, it's best to rip out this wiring method and replace it with nonmetallic sheathed cable. However, there may be circumstances where doing so is not the best option.
